The Christmas season can turn very busy for all of us and we often get lost in the frenzy of festive activities. Easily, we can fall out of our writing habits. As not to come out of practice and stay on track with your writing during the festive period, we have compiled some creative writing prompts with Christmas theme for you!
And if you feel like you or an aspiring writer in your life need more practice in 2015, join our Creative Writing for Beginners course led by a Penguin Random House editor!
* Write about the perfect Christmas day. Include plenty of details.
* Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the tree! Describe a time (made up or real) in which you and your family went hunting for the perfect tree to use in your celebration.
* It’s obvious how much fun Christmas can be for a child, getting to tear the presents and get everything he or she wants. Describe the child’s joy over its presents.
* Write a story about the history of Christmas and its origins. Make it fun and write parts of it from the viewpoints of characters living in that time.
* Pick up your favourite snow globe. Shake it. Tell a story about what you see inside.
* Write a story about a character trying to search for the meaning of Christmas. What does the journey of searching for Christmas result in?
* Write a story about someone who has experienced a tragic loss over the past few months. He or she is now faced with spending Christmas without this person or people who have passed.
Merry Christmas!
